Maranatha

Maranatha is a traditional advent acclamation, with different interpretations:

The Lord comes!

The Lord is come!

Come O Lord!

We light candles to symbolise our prayers:

  • faith that God is in a situation we yearn to see transformed

  • gratitude for peace or hope we have already experienced

  • exasperation that justice and change hasn’t come

If you like write on a piece of tape the situation you are praying for so others can acknowledge that situation before God too. Wrap it round the nightlight and light the candle.

We stand alongside you with the too difficult to write down and silent prayers. May God bring light to those situations. Please do light a candle to represent these too.

Maranatha

May the remainder of your Advent journey be a blessed time for you, your family and your community.

The photos and texts were hung up either side of the church, with prayer candles at the front. The lighting was up in the first part of the service to see and read the texts.

The Bible text, from the list above, and an image chosen by a member of Grace to accompany it.

Images 1-14 were used in the Advent calendar for those days, with additional images for days 15-24.
